Why Moab. Why the Outdoors.

The canyon doesn't care
about your org chart.

There's a reason the most effective leadership retreats and team building programs happen in wild places. When you put people in an unfamiliar environment — real terrain, genuine stakes, no familiar hierarchy — they reveal themselves. Quickly. Honestly.

Moab, Utah is one of the most extraordinary landscapes on the planet. The canyon walls don't care about titles. The slickrock doesn't yield to seniority. That's the point. Out here, your team figures out who they actually are — and who they can become together.

Clapper Adventures designs every corporate program around your group's actual goals. Leadership development under pressure. Trust-building through shared challenge. Communication stripped of email and slides. Morale that sticks for months after you fly home.

We're a small, locally-owned guide service with certified instructors and decades of Colorado Plateau experience. We don't run cookie-cutter programs. We build yours.

🧠

Real Pressure. Real Clarity.

Novel environments trigger adaptive thinking. When your team navigates a canyon together, they discover communication patterns, leadership instincts, and trust gaps that no workshop surfaces.

🤝

Trust Earned, Not Assumed

A canyoneering rappel. A technical rock climb. A steep descent on slickrock. These moments require genuine reliance on each other — and the team knows it. That trust transfers back to the office.

🗺️

Moab Is Worth the Trip

Red rock canyons, arches, desert towers, and the Colorado River corridor. It's a destination people actually want to come to — and remember long after the retreat ends.

🎯

Designed Around Your Goals

Half-day kickoffs. Full-day challenges. Multi-day leadership sequences. Whether you need a morale boost or a serious leadership crucible, we build the program to match.

What Your Team Gains

Leadership outcomes
built into every adventure.

These aren't soft benefits. They're measurable behaviors that show up in how your team works when you get back.

01
Communication Under Pressure
Desert navigation and technical terrain demand precise, clear communication. Your team practices it in real-time — building habits that carry into high-stakes work environments.
02
Adaptive Leadership
Different challenges surface different leaders. Canyons, climbing walls, and mountain trails reveal who steps up, who supports, and where each person's real strengths lie.
03
Genuine Trust
Shared challenge creates shared bonds. Clipping into a harness together, rappelling into a canyon, navigating a ridge — these moments build trust that office happy hours can't manufacture.
04
Problem-Solving in Ambiguity
There's no slide deck in a slot canyon. Teams that learn to navigate genuine uncertainty and find solutions outdoors bring that capability back to every project.
05
Morale That Lasts
A great adventure becomes a shared story. Teams that have summited together, rappelled together, and pushed their limits together reference it for years. That's culture-building.
06
Psychological Safety in Action
Asking for help on a canyon wall is practice for asking for help on a deadline. Our guides model calm, capable support — and your team learns to do the same for each other.
"The best way to see who someone really is? Put them somewhere they've never been, with people they depend on, and give them a challenge that matters."

Team Adventure Options

Six ways to challenge
your team in the canyon.

Every program can be run as a standalone half day, full day, or woven into a multi-day leadership sequence. We customize by group size, fitness level, and objectives.

★ Most Popular for Teams

Canyoneering:
The original team challenge.

Nothing tests a team quite like a canyon. Rappels, handlines, partner assists, chimneying — every technique in canyoneering requires clear communication, shared decision-making, and genuine reliance on each other.

Our certified guides lead your team through some of the most stunning slot canyons on the Colorado Plateau, including Bow and Arrow, Morning Glory, and Entrajo. Routes are selected based on your group's fitness and experience — no prior canyoneering knowledge required.

This is the program we recommend most for corporate groups: the terrain is dramatic, the techniques are learnable, and the challenges are real without being reckless.

Guided Hiking:
The desert, fully explored.

A private guided hike in Moab is far more than a walk. Your guide brings the landscape alive — the geology, the ecology, the human history of the Colorado Plateau — and creates space for real conversation as your team moves together through extraordinary terrain.

Guided hiking works beautifully as an opening or closing program for a multi-day retreat: accessible enough for all fitness levels, rich enough to generate the conversations that matter. Fisher Towers, Arches-area trails, and off-the-beaten-path canyon hikes are all in the rotation.

Mountain Biking:
Moab slickrock on two wheels.

Moab is one of the world's premier mountain biking destinations. Your team can ride the legendary Mag 7, explore the flowing Brand Trails, tackle Navajo Rocks, or cruise the Monitor & Merrimack corridor — all with a guide who knows every line.

Mountain biking programs are high-energy, confidence-building, and deeply satisfying. Groups celebrate shared success on technical terrain, challenge each other in a healthy way, and leave with something concrete they accomplished together — and miles of incredible views.

Winter Program · La Sal Mountains

Backcountry Skiing:
Moab's hidden stash.

Most people don't know Moab has world-class backcountry skiing and snowboarding in the La Sal Mountains — rising to 13,000 feet directly above the red rock desert. It's one of the most striking and unique winter experiences in the American West.

Our guides know the La Sals intimately and build programs across all skill levels — from beginner touring to advanced descents. A winter corporate retreat in Moab pairs the backcountry with cozy evenings in town, making for a program people genuinely look forward to.

Multi-Sport Programs:
The full Colorado Plateau.

For teams that want a genuinely transformative experience, our multi-sport programs combine two or more activities across consecutive days — canyon hiking in the morning, canyoneering in the afternoon, climbing the next day. Each activity builds on the last.

The combination is greater than the sum of its parts. Different activities surface different leaders, challenge different comfort zones, and create multiple shared moments that the team references together for years. This is the program for a real leadership retreat — not just a nice trip.

Common Questions

Before you
even have to ask.

Planning a corporate trip takes more questions than a personal one. Here are the ones we hear most — and honest answers to all of them.

Call 435.260.7066
No prior experience is required for most programs. Our certified guides teach every necessary skill from scratch — rappelling, handlines, rope work, trail navigation — in a way that builds genuine confidence rather than just getting people through. If you tell us your group's baseline, we'll design accordingly.
This is one of the most common corporate group challenges — and one we handle well. Route and activity selection is calibrated to your group's realistic ability range. We pace for the group, not the fastest person, and our guides are skilled at keeping everyone challenged, engaged, and moving comfortably. Larger groups can also split by activity or difficulty if needed.
There's no hard ceiling — we scale by adding certified guides. Smaller groups (up to ~13) run as a single cohort. Larger groups are split into parallel guided groups running the same or complementary activities. We've worked with groups from 5 to 50+. Tell us your headcount and we'll design accordingly.
Spring (March–May) and Fall (September–November) are the sweet spots — mild temperatures, extraordinary light, and manageable crowds. Summer works well with early starts; the heat is manageable if you're in the canyon by 7–8 AM. Winter offers a completely different and remarkable experience with La Sal Mountains skiing paired with desert canyon hiking.
Yes — on request, we can incorporate structured debrief sessions that connect each day's outdoor experience to specific leadership competencies or team development goals. These can be guide-led conversations on the trail or more formal evening sessions. Let us know your objectives when we plan the program.
For spring and fall, we recommend 6–10 weeks advance notice — these seasons fill quickly, especially for multi-guide group programs. Summer and winter typically have more flexibility, but 3–4 weeks is still wise. Reach out as early as possible if you have fixed dates — we'll confirm availability immediately.
We don't book lodging or flights directly, but we're deeply connected to Moab and happy to recommend the best hotels, campgrounds, restaurants, and rental options for corporate groups. Many of our clients treat us as a local concierge for the adventure side of their trip — and we're glad to play that role.
