The Custom Difference

Not a tour.
A tailored climbing day.

"Magnificent sandstone cliffs loom in every direction — these walls are a defining feature of the Colorado Plateau."

Moab's climbing is unlike anything else on earth. Desert towers, crack systems, slickrock faces — the options are staggering. The problem? Without local knowledge, you spend half your day figuring out where to go. With Clapper Adventures, you arrive with a plan that's already perfectly dialed.

Every custom climbing trip starts with a conversation — often several. We want to know your experience level, your goals, who's in your group, and how you want the day to feel. From there, your guide builds an itinerary around you: which crags, which style of climbing, what techniques to focus on, and how long to stay on the rock.

This is what private guiding actually means. Not a group tour with a fixed route — a day shaped entirely around your crew.

Your Call

Tell us your goals — we'll match you to the perfect objective

Routes and crags are selected based on conditions, skill level, and what you want to achieve. Final decisions are made collaboratively with your guide.

How It Works

Lots of conversation.
Zero guesswork.

The custom trip process is built on communication. We talk through your goals before you ever set foot on the rock — so the day flows exactly as you imagined.

01

Reach Out

Submit an inquiry or call us at 435.260.7066. Tell us who's coming, your experience level, your dates, and any goals or dream routes.

02

We Connect

Your guide follows up directly — often for a phone or email conversation. This is where we get into specifics: skill level, objectives, and what kind of day you want.

03

We Build Your Day

Based on your conversation, we design a complete itinerary — crag selection, trip length, techniques to focus on, and logistics. You approve it. We fine-tune it.

04

Show Up Ready

You'll receive a pre-trip confirmation with everything you need: where to meet, what to bring, and what to expect. Then you just show up and climb.

What You'll Do

Skills, scenery,
and real desert climbing.

Whether you're learning to place your first piece of gear or pushing your limit on a multi-pitch desert tower, the day is designed around what matters most to you.

🧗

Desert Trad Climbing

Learn the intricacies of traditional climbing in Moab's crack-heavy terrain. Your guide covers gear placements, anchor building, and movement on sandstone — following AMGA standards throughout.

⛏️

Technique & Skill Focus

Tell us what you want to work on. Crack technique, footwork, leading anxiety, multi-pitch systems — we build skill sessions into the day so you leave a better climber than when you arrived.

🏔️

Iconic Objectives

Dream of standing on Castleton Tower or weaving up Ancient Art? We guide classic Moab objectives for parties ready for the challenge. Talk to us early — these require planning.

🔰

Introduction to Climbing

Brand new to climbing? We start from the ground up. Knots, communication, movement, and safety systems — all taught in one of the most beautiful classrooms in the American West.

🌄

Crag Exploration

Not sure what you want? Let us recommend. We know which crags are baking in the afternoon heat and which ones shade perfectly. Local knowledge makes every hour count.

📸

Memorable Moments

The views from Moab's climbing walls stop people cold — even experienced climbers. We build time into the day to actually absorb where you are. Sandstone towers, canyon floors, desert sky.

How Hard Is It

You set the
bar.

Trip difficulty is entirely determined by your goals and experience. Here's a rough guide — but the real answer depends on what you want from the day.

Beginner No experience needed. We start with basics, stay on moderate terrain, and go at your pace.
Intermediate Some climbing background, ready for real routes, gear placements, and multi-pitch movement.
Advanced Experienced climbers tackling classic objectives, big walls, or technical desert features.

Physical fitness: moderate fitness is helpful. Good walking shoes, sun protection, and plenty of water go a long way.
